Coffee plantations can be the new rainforests or sterile plantations. It's up to you. We are a caffeinated people. Forty-seven percent of Americans are coffee drinkers; they consume, on the average, 3.4 cups per day, or 20 percent of total world coffee production. That adds up to strong consumer clout. If we choose to use it, we can get a lot more out of our daily dose: protecting tropical habitat, and improving the lives of those who grow our beloved beans
