Welcome to Chicago Fair Trade

Who Made Your Clothes?

Amilka Khanam was trapped under rubblewhen the Rana Plaza building collapsed last year.

This spring, Amilka visited Chicago; at an event co-hosted by Chicago Fair Trade, she asked:

"We are making clothing for you. Will you stand with us in Bangladesh?"

This  summer, Chicago aldermen voted YES and passed a sweatfree

ordinance. We have let it be known that we will NOT let our tax dollars

support sweatshops. And stay tuned as we move towards operationalizing

this ordinance. There is still much work to be done to ensure that this

important  legislation has an impact on the lives of those who sew our

garments.

  • Chicago residents:  Thank your alderman for voting YES on the
    sweatfree ordinance!
  • Download and post the Sweatfree Flier at your workplace, school
  • or community bulletin boards.
  • Please contact us to schedule a presentation, to learn more about
  • hosting the traveling photo exhibit,
  • and other ways to become involved.
